The budget speech highlighted various initiatives and allocations aimed at driving progress across the country. Union Budget 2024: Bihar Gets a Shot in the Arm
Bihar, ruled by the Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal United, received a substantial allocation of ₹26,000 crore for various road projects. The state will also witness the establishment of airports, medical colleges, and sports infrastructure, paving the way for holistic development.
“We will also support the construction of road connectivity projects, namely Patna-Purnia Expressway, Buxar-Bagalpur Expressway, Bodhgaya-Rajgir-Vaishali-Darbhanga, and an additional two-lane bridge over river Ganga at Buxar at a total cost of Rs 26,000 cr." says FM Nirmala Sitharaman.
The Centre's 'Purvodaya' plan promises all-round development for Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh, focusing on industrial growth and infrastructure development. The aim, she said, was to make this region an engine for attaining the goal of Viksit Bharat.
The announcements in the Union Budget for Bihar are significant as the state will go to polls next year. Between the popularity of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the BJP will hope that the new announcements will give much-needed push to the BJP-JDU.
Andhra Pradesh: A Focus on Capital Development
Andhra Pradesh, ruled by the Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP), received a significant allocation of ₹15,000 crore for the development of its capital city, Amaravati. The state will also benefit from the Centre's commitment to completing and financing the Polavaram irrigation project.
The finance minister said that concerted efforts will be made to fulfill commitments made under the AP Reorganisation Act, for promoting industrial developments, funds will be provided for essential infrastructure such as water, power, railways, and roads. A backward region grant has also been announced for three districts in Andhra Pradesh, aiming to bridge the development gap.
