Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), in collaboration with Startup India and the Department for Industrial Policy and Promotion (DPIIT) under the Government of India, is set to organize a two-day workshop for women entrepreneurs in Sempora, Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir. The workshop is scheduled to take place on June 19th and 20th, 2023, and aims to empower women and create a supportive ecosystem for entrepreneurship and innovation in the region.

Director of JKEDI, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, chaired a preparatory meeting to discuss the upcoming workshop. Senior faculty members and officers of the institute participated in the meeting, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in promoting women-led entrepreneurial endeavors in Jammu and Kashmir.

Focus on Startup Ecosystem and Capacity Building

The two-day workshop will comprise various sessions designed to provide women entrepreneurs with the necessary tools and knowledge to succeed. These sessions will focus on the startup ecosystem, experience sharing, capacity building, and pitching. Additionally, participants will have access to a pre-workshop virtual pitching training session, enhancing their skills and confidence in presenting their ideas.

Promoting Inclusion and Balanced Growth

The Government of India has taken significant steps toward promoting the inclusion of women-led initiatives to ensure balanced growth. The country has called for the integration of gender concerns into the core agenda of the G20 during its presidency. In line with these efforts, JKEDI is dedicated to building a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs for Social and Economic Advancement

The two-day workshop forms part of a series of events organized across the country to support and provide a platform for women entrepreneurs. By organizing these workshops, JKEDI aims to harness the potential of women participants, offering resources and guidance to help them reach their full potential. This initiative is expected to act as an enabling factor for the social and economic advancement of women and society as a whole.

The workshop is open to aspiring women entrepreneurs in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as startups recognized by the DPIIT, Government of India, with at least one female founder. How Will The Workshop Benefit The Participants?

Participants of the workshop will receive participation certificates as recognition for their attendance. By organizing this workshop, JKEDI, in collaboration with Startup India and DPIIT, aims to empower women entrepreneurs in Jammu and Kashmir and provide them with the necessary support to succeed in their ventures. This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to create a vibrant startup ecosystem that promotes innovation and economic growth in the region.

Government data shows that there are nearly 1,800 registered start-ups in Jammu & Kashmir. The start-up ecosystem in J&K comprises of local versions of big startups like Ola, Uber, Amazon, Flipkart and Zomato as these unicorns have minimal presence in the region in terms of service areas or penetration level.
