In a bold move to connect Tamil Nadu's startups with international markets, the state government is setting up Global Startup Coordination Centres in key locations. Following the successful launch of a centre in Dubai, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin announced plans to open similar centres in Singapore and the USA. These centres will serve as bridges to help Tamil Nadu’s startups tap into new markets, forge international partnerships, and participate in global tech and innovation events.
"By setting up these centres, we’re creating opportunities for our startups to network on a global scale," Udhayanidhi Stalin said at the launch event of “StartUp Chennai - Seiga Puthumai” at IIT-M Research Park.
The initiative, part of the “StartUp Tamil Nadu” program, aims to strengthen the state’s innovation ecosystem and position Tamil Nadu as a leader in the global startup community.

Making Global Connections: GITEX Dubai and Beyond
Tamil Nadu is already facilitating global participation for its startups. Recently, the state sponsored 19 startup firms to participate in the prestigious GITEX event in Dubai, one of the largest technology exhibitions worldwide. This exposure allowed Tamil Nadu startups to present their innovations to investors, tech giants, and other entrepreneurs. Next, 18 startups from Tamil Nadu are slated to attend a major event in Finland, opening doors for European market entry.
Such initiatives reflect Tamil Nadu’s commitment to integrating local businesses with the global economy, a move Deputy CM Stalin asserts will help achieve the state’s ambitious goal of a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
A Booming Startup Ecosystem: From 2,300 to 9,600 Startups in Two Years
Since the current administration took office, the number of registered startups in Tamil Nadu has soared from 2,300 to 9,600, a nearly fourfold increase. This rapid growth is largely due to targeted policies and support systems that encourage entrepreneurship. Tamil Nadu’s startup ecosystem is also leading the way in women’s empowerment, with nearly half of these startups being women-led—a statistic that underscores the state’s focus on inclusivity and gender equality in business.
“This inspiring growth signals a thriving entrepreneurial environment, one where women and minority communities are empowered to innovate and succeed,” Stalin highlighted, noting that Tamil Nadu is creating an inclusive environment that sets a benchmark for other states.
SC/ST Startup Fund Increased to ₹50 Crore
The Tamil Nadu government’s support extends to marginalized communities. Acknowledging the success of its initiatives for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe entrepreneurs, the state has announced an increase in the SC/ST Startup Fund from ₹30 crore to ₹50 crore. This fund aims to provide essential seed funding to new startups led by SC/ST entrepreneurs, fostering economic independence and innovation in underserved communities.
The government’s outreach doesn’t stop there. In line with its “everything for everyone” philosophy, the administration is also extending support to differently-abled and transgender entrepreneurs. Special programs, funding, and mentorship will enable these entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life.

Building Regional Innovation Hubs: Supporting Startups Beyond Chennai
To decentralize the growth of startups, Tamil Nadu is establishing regional hubs in cities like Hosur, Salem, Thanjavur, Cuddalore, Coimbatore, and Trichy. These hubs will provide local entrepreneurs with the resources and training they need to scale their businesses, transforming these cities into innovation centers.
The government is also working closely with educational institutions, launching pre-incubation centres across Tamil Nadu. These centres aim to nurture young entrepreneurs at the grassroots level, ensuring that students have the necessary tools and mentorship to turn their ideas into viable businesses.

Training and Resources: Empowering the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs
Udhayanidhi Stalin encouraged the youth and women of Tamil Nadu to seize this opportunity and explore business ideas that can make a difference.
“You develop the ideas, and StartUp Tamil Nadu will support you to realize them. We’ll provide the training, subsidies, and help with bank loans to get your business off the ground,” he said.
In addition, the state launched initiatives like the Periyar Social Justice Venture Lab and Startify, a business skill development competition designed to equip students with entrepreneurial skills. The government also introduced a dedicated help centre for startups, offering guidance on marketing strategies and product development.
A Vision for the Future
As Tamil Nadu accelerates its efforts to boost its startup ecosystem, the vision for a $1 trillion economy by 2030 seems increasingly within reach. By nurturing a diverse and inclusive entrepreneurial community, fostering global connections, and providing robust support systems, Tamil Nadu is setting a new standard for state-led startup initiatives in India.
With a growing number of startups, strong government backing, and a focus on inclusivity, Tamil Nadu is poised to be a significant player on the global startup stage.
