ChatGPT founder Sam Altman expressed his company's commitment to supporting startups in the country. Altman emphasized the significance of education and discussed opportunities for artificial intelligence (AI) in India during his visit.

In line with this, the European Union and the United States are preparing to draft a voluntary code of conduct on AI to address the technology's rapid growth and potential risks.

ChatGPT supports Indian Startups

Altman affirmed that supporting startups in India holds greater importance for OpenAI than establishing a physical office in the country at present. He expressed enthusiasm for the entrepreneurial energy exhibited by Indian startups and expressed a desire to explore ways to assist them. In conversations held with Indian startups, Altman conveyed OpenAI's interest in investing in and supporting their growth.

"We were always amazed by the quality of Indian startups. The energy we are seeing in Indian startups, we are looking to fund them... We had some conversations yesterday on funding startups in India," Altman said.

During his visit, Altman had the privilege of meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The discussions centered around the potential of AI in India and the necessity of considering global regulation. Altman reiterated OpenAI's keenness on collaborating with India, particularly in the field of education. Highlighting their shared vision, he conveyed the company's eagerness to work alongside India to advance educational initiatives.

How can Indians join OpenAI? 

According to Altman, during his talk at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi, OpenAI has a more flexible hiring approach compared to tech giants like Microsoft and Google. While those companies often have strict degree requirements for applicants, OpenAI is open to hiring undergraduates and individuals who have dropped out of college.

Altman emphasized that some of OpenAI's most accomplished researchers are either undergraduates or college dropouts. He made it clear that a Ph.D. is not a requirement for making significant contributions and doing exceptional work at OpenAI. The organization values talent above all and believes that undergraduates can be a great fit for the company.
