Realizing this need, Alkesh Kumar Sharma, the Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), inaugurated the lead event of G20, the 1st International Conference on Communication, Electronics and Digital Technologies – NICE-DT 2023 and Digital Skilling organized by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT).
The conference was aimed at highlighting the importance of digital skilling, up-skilling, and re-skilling in today's rapidly changing economy.
The Secretary of MeitY, in his inaugural address, said that digital skilling, up-skilling, and re-skilling are critical to maintain and expand an individual's capabilities and employability in the advancing digital economy. He also congratulated NIELIT for training around 8 million candidates in the last ten years and for registering tremendous growth in capacity building and skilling.
International Journal of Digital Technologies Unveiled
During the conference, the dignitaries also unveiled the 1st International Journal of Digital Technologies and Abstract Book. The International Journal of Digital Technologies is one of its kind and highlights the academic face of NIELIT.
Skilling Programs Offered Through NIELIT Virtual Academy
NIELIT offers courses in various technologies such as Robotics, Data Science, Blockchain, Information System Security, VLSI, Cyber Forensics, and more through its virtual academy. The institute is also working on aligning 96 qualifications with the National Skills Qualification Framework in the IT and electronics sector at different NSQF levels.
Balancing Technology and Skilling
In his address, Prof. K.K. Aggarwal, Chairman of the National Board of Accreditation, emphasized the importance of striking an apt balance between technology and skilling. He said that combining skilling with knowledge and technology will provide an inclusive platform for quality learning.
Panel Discussions and Research Papers Presentation
The inaugural session of the 1st International Conference on Digital Technologies was followed by technical sessions and presentation of research papers by authors. The second day of the conference comprised of panel discussions on various topics such as Framework for Mutual Recognition of Skills, Digital Skills for All, and Advanced and Emerging Skills.
Conference Acts as Enabler for Collaboration Among Stakeholders
Dr. Madan Mohan Tripathi, the Director General of NIELIT, said that the conference on digital technologies and digital skilling would act as an enabler for collaboration among stakeholders in the field of digital skilling and digital technologies at both national and international levels. The insights presented by the eminent panelists from India and abroad would help in filling the gap in skilled manpower vis-à-vis industry demand.
The 1st International Conference on Digital Technologies and Digital Skilling was a two-day event that had a special emphasis on knowledge sharing by researchers across the globe and the generation of skilled manpower. The conference marked the first version in the history of NIELIT and depicted the academic face of the institute, besides its core competency in capacity building and skilling.
