Energy tech startup ChargeMOD has announced a collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) to improve accessibility and convenience in India's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The partnership focuses on integrating technology and expanding high-speed charging options to support the growing EV ecosystem in the country.
TICE brings you details of this partnership.
Integration for Seamless EV Charging
Under this partnership, ChargeMOD’s app will provide EV users access to all HPCL EV charging stations across India. This integration, powered by Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI) technology, allows EV drivers to locate and use HPCL’s charging stations without needing multiple accounts or apps. By enabling seamless roaming across networks, the collaboration aims to simplify the charging process for users.
ChargeMOD’s app features real-time updates on charging station availability, navigation, and payment integration, making it a practical tool for EV owners. The integration with HPCL’s charging infrastructure will further enhance its usability, especially for long-distance travel and urban commutes.

Expansion of Fast-Charging Network
As part of the collaboration, ChargeMOD will install nearly 100 fast chargers at selected HPCL outlets. These chargers are expected to significantly reduce charging times, addressing a common concern among EV users. Fast chargers are particularly beneficial for drivers traveling long distances, as they reduce downtime and ensure efficient charging at key locations.
HPCL’s wide network of fuel stations, including in metro cities and along major highways, provides an ideal platform for this expansion. This effort aligns with the government’s push to increase EV adoption and improve infrastructure readiness across the country.
ChargeMOD, a relatively new entrant in the energy tech sector, sees this partnership as an opportunity to contribute to India’s clean energy goals. M. Ramanunni, Co-Founder and CEO of ChargeMOD, highlighted the role of technology in enhancing user experience, saying:
"With OCPI roaming and fast charger deployment, we aim to make EV charging convenient and efficient for all users."
For HPCL, this partnership is part of a larger initiative to develop a robust EV charging ecosystem. The company has already installed 4,000 charging stations and plans to set up an additional 2,100+ fast chargers by March 2025, primarily in urban centers and on key highways.
Addressing EV Challenges
The collaboration addresses two key challenges in the EV space—range anxiety and accessibility. By combining HPCL’s extensive network with ChargeMOD’s app-based integration, the partnership is designed to improve convenience for EV drivers.

The deployment of fast chargers is particularly relevant for India’s diverse geography, as it reduces charging times and makes EVs a more practical choice for various use cases. This development aligns with the government’s broader goals of reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable transportation.
The ChargeMOD-HPCL partnership is a step forward in developing an efficient and accessible EV charging network in India. By leveraging technology and infrastructure, the collaboration seeks to address user concerns and support the growing demand for EVs.
As India moves toward achieving its clean energy objectives, such collaborations are expected to play a critical role in accelerating EV adoption and improving the overall charging experience for users.
