"What inspired us to start MedTel was filling the gaps in healthcare. Being a doctor coming from healthcare, the idea has been to make healthcare available in the inaccessible areas, whether it is in terms of geography, whether it is in terms of the neighborhood status, or for any other reason," Das shared. 

The Untapped Potential

When asked about the scope for improvement in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, Dr. Das emphasized that the surface has barely been scratched. The potential for enhancing healthcare services in these areas remains largely unexplored. Despite discussions about telehealth dating back to the early 2000s, it wasn't until the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic that the world truly embraced the idea.

How is MedTel Making a Difference in Healthcare?

MedTel Healthcare addresses the management of chronic diseases, recognizing that while some conditions may not be entirely curable, they can be effectively managed. MedTel deploys IoT wherein a network of devices, hardware infrastructure, and software are interconnected such that they can all seamlessly talk to each other and exchange information. This technology has enabled disruptions like home care and remote care enabling a virtual and patient-centric approach to healthcare delivery.

MedTel Healthcare tackled this by designing a system that could operate in offline modes, allowing data collection even in areas without network coverage. The data might not sync instantly, but once back within network zones, it seamlessly integrates.

"Startups are a challenge. Developing the technology, user adoption, because we are talking about it in pre-COVID times when telehealth was still a bit of a barrier. We started out as a healthcare provider in rural areas. We pivoted from that to focus on the platform. We thought the platform was big enough and we could actually onboard other healthcare providers. Then we took feedback from different users and improved our system we are also scaling," the founder of MedTel mentioned. 

What Does MedTel have in store for the Future? 

MedTel Healthcare's roadmap includes innovative initiatives in maternal health. They are digitalizing maternal checkups, a vital step towards improving maternal healthcare in India. What began as a small pilot project two years ago has scaled up considerably, promising a brighter future for maternal health.

MedTel Healthcare's impact isn't limited to one region. They have deployments in various states, including Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. Their platform's adaptability and scalability make it a versatile solution for healthcare providers across the country.
